TEXT "VOICE" "THOUGHT"
Silence is what filled the air, not a word or sound was made. The very stillness of the field was not only eerie but strangely calming. From a distances a sound was steadily growing louder. The early morning dew gradually clinging to the red tinted fur of a vixen. With careful steps the female fox made her path in the field one hard to fallow on sight alone. She knew as the dew clung to her pelt, that dawn was approaching. Her chance was coming up close, an easy meal was within her grasp.
In front of her and within an easy distance stood a chicken coop, it was within sight of a small farm house however it didn't seem guarded. Silly humans Shula that to herself, leaving such a valuable place unprotected in an open field. None the less she wasn't about to let it pass her by, careful and with light steps she claimed the roof of the chicken coop.
Having raised by a young girl she knew the basic workings of a latch, turn one head up and the entire door would swing open. Her legs long and dainty were easy for the task, flicking the latch up and pushing the door wide. With balance like a pro, Shula moved from the door to toward the back of the coop, were the mesh wires were meant to keep animals like herself out.
She gave loud growling noises that roused the hens inside, with haste the abandoned their nest for the seemly safe field. Once the coast was clear Shula jumped from her clever spot and slipped right inside.
Nearly every nest had one brown egg inside, just right for her pickings. Picking one up she munched on it, licking her chops as her breakfast was made. Looking around she scoured for any young chicks to fill the rest of her belly but without any lucky she settled on two more eggs to fill her up
Without sign of humans, Shula picked up what she could carry in her maw which happened to be two more eggs. These were hard to come by and from the looks of it the last two remaining eggs from the coop. Carefully, treating them with great care to moved out of the coop and toward her den.
It was a walk and her maw started to tire with carrying the eggs but she stopped a good ways away from her den, she had stopped beside a slow babbling creek. It normally died up over the summer but it was just barely there. From her days as a farm girl's pet she placed the eggs she carried in the water. It was cool to the touch and Shula lapped at it, those eggs would prove a tasty meal later in the day or if she was able to later in the season, if only her den was closer to the creek. However with the creek being visited often by other animals it wasn't safe. Yet the day was fresh and young and possibly open for adventure.
Her belly full and her eyes drowsy she stretched out in the shade of the grass, some blades still heavy with dew. There she started to drift in the still cool and damp morning air.
