Scamp
I will stand by you I will help you through When you've done all you can do --------------------------------------
Cold stand wedged itself between the small paws of pup. The misty and salt filled air brought new sensations to his fresh nose. The small body of the nearly pure white male pup shivered but didn't stop his pursuit. Scamp the runt his litter had set himself on a mission, find the most beautiful shell on the beach. His cold nose had poked the sand, using his paws he dug around kicking up damp sand. Without any luck he snuffed his nose and trotted away his brown eyes searching.
Scamp was no fool and kept a safe distance from the waves of the ocean, no matter how tempting it was. The cold of the ending day was starting to put a damper on his plans. His fur prickled with the thought of a coming storm, but he paid no attention.
Pressing his luck he ventured closer to the waves, letting a few lap at his paws. The shouts of a human from a distant took his attention. Scamp scurried away, scenting faintly on the salt filled air a large dog heading his way. Scamp hurried under a chuck of driftwood and waited, the waves rose higher and now licked at his knees. He yelped at the cold water and hurried out from under the driftwood. Pushing is little legs away from the water he once against got a safe distance.
Nose to the sand again he kept looking for a shell or pretty rock to take home, something to show he was special and not a loser.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,550,true] [/style][style=width: 258px; height: 310px; color: 000000; padding-left: 275px; margin-top: -325px; text-align: justify; overflow: auto;]the beach was on her own personal top ten lists. the perfect blue skies of today made perfect playtime weather. the sun shone with the warmth of the world and was perfectly countered by the misty air, allowing the temperature to fall to a comfortable number. the beach was clear, all the humans were father along the beach and she had allowed the pups to wander along the shore, having forced them to promise to stay away from the waves. she had no doubt that zoee would try it anyway, being the little rebel she was. syd couldn't help the smile that darted upon her maw. syd herself had been a rebel as a pup, always running away and getting in trouble. of course, her pups didn't know about it. last thing she needed to do was encourage them. after all, if mom can do it , so can the pups.
which was why it was stupid to wade into the wave, the salty water lapping at her paws. she would risk it, she hadn't been swimming since her mate taught her and she longed to stretch her legs in a good way. in a way that wasn't chasing after one pup or the other. finally the water reached her belly. she wondered how safe the water was, scanning the surface for any water predators like sharks. her gaze narrowed, not trusting her eyes. she did realize that this was a human beach and humans wouldn't swim with sharks, but she didn't trust these strange humans. they could be trying to kill her and her pups. instead of going deeper, she made her way to the shore and shook the water droplets from her coat. her gaze searched the shore, mentally searching for each one of her pups.
she found each of them, safe and unharmed. her gaze lingered on scamp, the runt of her litter. six months and he was still small. she watched as he went closer to the waves, tensing as he touched them, ready to jump out and save the pup. he scurried away on his own and made his way up the beach. his gaze searching for something and not finding it. syd shook herself once more and made a slow and silent trek towards the third born runt. she reached him and let her shadow fall over him. she nuzzled his side and licked his head, hoping that she wouldn't lose this one. he seemed strong enough but he refused to grow and it perplexed her. hello scamp. she hoped the worry didn't show in her voice. whatcha looking for little one, perhaps i can help you with it? [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i1054.photobucket.com/albums/s491/prehistoric-dino/scampmiddle.jpg] Scamp's attention didn't waver from the sand as he searched for the shell, from time to time his's ears perked at the barks of his siblings. His brown eyes shifted once or twice to catch a glimpse of Birdy or maybe even his father, however it wasn't a priority to see them.
The cool stand that wiggled and rubbed all parts of his paws had started to irritate him. Picking up one paw he dug in with his teeth, trying to pull out a rather annoying something in his paw. He tugged and out came a uneven chunk of shell which had wedged itself, not with the mild discomfort gone he was once again excited to look around and explore.
With no luck on the less wave affected parts of the beach, Scamp got even more daring. Looking up he saw his mama she was playing in the waves and Scamp paused to watch her. He knew that from the way she acted she was always worried about him, Scamp didn't understand why. Sure he was small and hadn't yet grown up very much but she shouldn't worry all the time, it would make her old.
Scamp's little tail wagged as he went closer to the waves he once again taunted the sea by staying just out of reach, from time to time his paws would be licked by the waves and he always gave a happy yelp.
His search once again turned up nothing as he retreated back to a safe distance. It wasn't that he didn't find shell, he had found plenty for a life time it was that he didn't find the right shell, which soured his mood. Scamp had always wanted to be perfect to show he wasn't to little or to weak, he plopped down just as a familiar nuzzle covered his head.
Scamp turned and greeted his mother with a few playful licks and nuzzled her back. Like any child the love for his mother was special and Scamp knew he would miss her on those days he finally ventured away from home and didn't feel the need to return home.
"Mama I'm trying to find a pretty shell to take home but I can't" Scamp complained, stomping at the sand, a few pieces flying up into his nose, which caused him to sneeze in discomfort. He settled back at his mama's paws and nuzzled her, he didn't like not succeeding and that put a damper on his mood.
